Basic Folder Information

Cooperative Research

Reliance on a single IRB is required by any institution located in the United States engaged in cooperative research (14CFR1230.114). The NASA IRB collaborates with other institutions through reliance acknowledgements and holds a Federal-wide Assurance (FWA00019876), which assures compliance with U.S. Federal regulations on the protection of human subjects in research. 

NASA IRB Serving as the IRB of Record

The NASA IRB will serve as the IRB of record for all research performed at a NASA center or on NASA property, research involving NASA employees, and/or research including spaceflight human subjects.

NASA IRB Relying on an External IRB

NASA Principal Investigators may rely upon another IRB for research oversight provided investigators at NASA and the external organization are participating as investigators on a research project and:
